Preparing Your Child For Attending Birth

If you’ve chosen to have your children present for your birth here are some things you should know. You can choose whether you want to bring your child for the labor, delivery only or the whole birth. It’s important to discuss with your child early on what exactly will happen during the birth. To make it a little easier you can show them videos or get a picture book.

It’s also a good idea to have someone other than your husband to act as a companion. The companion should be comfortable in the delivery room and able to explain what's happening while the baby is born. And if you decide to change your mind at the last minute that’s ok just explain to your child that you need to really concentrate on the birth so that it can go easier and faster.
