Breastfeeding Positions

The most important part of breastfeeding is getting the baby to latch on correctly. Here are some basic positions to use when breastfeeding your baby. The cradle position gives you the most control of your baby. In this position your baby lies on its side, with its mouth level with your nipple.

The clutch position also known as the 'football hold,' is a good position for women who have just had a c-section. For this position your baby is facing you while you support its head in your hand and its back rests along your arm beside you. The side lying position is a comfortable position, especially when you are feeling tired. With this position, both mother and baby lie on their sides facing each other. A pillow behind the baby's back will keep it from rolling away from you.
